Where Wordpress is perfect...

Nevertheless, over time, many shortcomings were corrected. For example, version 2.7 has made great progress with a new, much more user-friendly administrative interface. In addition, automatic updating is also a notable and rare new feature among CMS.
Despite everything, Wordpress still has serious flaws that primarily depend on the decisions made, and therefore the question arises of who makes the decisions and how.

My webblogging is here, but don't tell anyone

In this case, we are talking about the disadvantages of choice, not development, such as, for example, limited imports and exports.

Versions enabled by default

For 99% of users, saving modified versions of each article is completely useless and saturates the database. Wordpress is common blog software! By default, versions are not only enabled, but you also need to change the code to disable them! Erasing edits is not easy, see how to.
It's a shame that when the software fixes its flaws, new versions bring new ones!

Default Private Mode

By default, Wordpress bans the site from search engines! So we have to put content online in full view of the world, but if we don't check the appropriate box, it won't be available to internet users!
Another non-default value that seems out of place is a picture that is actually a gallery of pages, if you don't think about checking a box that associates thumbnails with larger pictures, as seems natural for a gallery.
Selecting the default modes in Wordpress does not seem to result in general site usage.

Update 2012: This bug has been fixed.

Admin Login

Typically, when using CMS, most of the time is spent on editing, and the rest on management. When you log in, you most often add or edit an article. However, the connection sends you directly to the admin panel, which makes you look for the article you wanted to change. Drupal at least has this advantage, it is a direct connection on the product and in fact, even the most basic CMS as flowBB provides this capability.

URLs in digits

Why not have the default URLs read (not redirected) rather than a string of characters and numbers? There are only advantages to this. This problem is common to most CMSs.

Articles glued to words

The URL is not intended for the human reader, there is a binding for this. Inserting an article like "leurope" for "Europe" is not a solution, a set of keywords is suitable here (and not in the title ).

Default themes.

These themes have all the qualities: they are ugly, non-casteable and ignore all SEO principles (see Wordpress article and optimization for search engines). In addition, they are presented as models that should inspire users to create their own theme!

Conclusion

The other day, the development team conducted a survey on what needed to be developed in the next version of Wordpress. There was a broad consensus (this was a more developed function of the gallery). Such initiatives could be widely used.
