Jumla, tough but expandable CMS

Introduction to the popular CMS (Content Management System) Joomla and its use. This strange name was chosen among many others! It is a Swahili word expressing a communal view of the instrument.
The use of Joomla is quite diverse: portal, magazine, e-commerce. If you wonder why use Joomla rather than Wordpress or Drupal, then the first is suitable for webmasters who want a ready-made tool right away, the second for those who need an adaptable CMS for the company's business. Jumla is in between.

In April 2010, Microsoft signed Joomla! Contribute Agreement and now contributes to the code to make it work better on its Windows IIS server.

Jumla's flaws

Documentation is the weak point of this CMS. The site does not even see a list of software features, you need to follow them to other sites. In addition to the PDF file somewhere on the site that I found thanks to Google.
To obtain information, you will need to go through an English site, or rather a wiki with its Absolute Beginners Guide to Joomla section, since the French site systematically refers to the book you need to buy.

Jumla has only two levels of hierarchy, while WordPress allows you to add subcategories without restrictions. This is sufficient for an inbound or e-commerce site, but Joomla is not suitable for a documentary site.

Organization of content

The Joomla page contains various types of content called "modules" in the English documentation.

You can place several modules of the same type on the page, which is very useful. To enable them, go to the Extension/Module menu, select the check box and click the Enable button. The schema is defined using the edit parameter.
You can create new modules, position them and give them content using a text editor.

Section and categories

This corresponds to two hierarchical levels. Sections consist of several categories. This is equivalent to Wordpress categories: sets in which items are placed.

Ideally, sections are suitable for distinguishing between content types (for example: articles, videos, FAQs, forum) and categories for semantic ordering of pages.

When you create a category, you choose which section it belongs to, and in the same way, when you create an article, you determine which category it belongs to.

The display of sections and categories depends on the template and user selection and is not related to their structure. You can place categories in the menu, in the title, or elsewhere, and the same applies to sections.

Administration

It is advisable to create a bookmark for the site, example: www.iqlevsha.ru. and one more to get directly into the administration of the site: www.iqlevsha.ru/administrator/

Control is carried out completely from the horizontal menu bar. On the right, it contains a very useful help submenu for understanding several CMS parameters.
