Combine two images with GIMP
Combining images with an overlay effect is very easily achieved with a layer mask.
We want to combine Asin Thottumkal's photography with that of Punch Mahal, a school in India.
1) Two images to merge |

2) Add layer mask. |

Click the image layer on the right. Right-click the Add Layer Mask row to open the dialog box below.

Select white to initialize the mask. White color corresponds to opacity. Now you get it in the layers window: |
3) Create translucency |
|
Select from the tool window: Take the gradient tool. Right-to-left gradient, starting at the edge of the image and stopping in the middle to keep the part visible. |

4) Merge layer |

In the Layers window, click Merge Layers. Only one layer is now visible in the window. |

5) Overlay both images |
|
Click the template image, and then click Select All. Navigate to the landscape in selection mode, and click Paste. Move the image as needed. Back up. |
